Fertilisers in Organic Farming

Fertiliser products have a significant market in organic farming (in 2023, there were 5,893 organic farms in Hungary). However, only products that comply with Regulation 2021/1165 (EU) (the Regulation) may be used in this context. Farmers must take all necessary precautions to ensure that organic food does not come into contact with unauthorized plant protection products and substances.

In organic farming, the products and substances listed in Annex II of the Regulation may be used as fertilizers, soil improvers and nutrients for plant nutrition, litter improvement and enrichment or algae cultivation or husbandry environment of aquatic animals, provided that they comply with the relevant EU legislation ((EU) 2019/1009, 1069/2009/EC, 142/2011/EU), and, where applicable with national rules based on EU legislation.

CerTrust Ltd. is the first company in Hungary to certify the compliance of fertilizer products with Annex II of Regulation 2021/1165 (EU).

Certifiable product categories:

1. Non-EU fertilisers that have been approved/authorised according to national regulations in accordance with EU law
2. EU fertilisers that have been certified according to Regulation 2019/1009 (EU)

During the certification process, CerTrust Ltd. experts will assess the overall composition of the product based on the submitted documentation, taking into account the test results if necessary. A certificate is issued for the products concerned. 

CerTrust Ltd. certifies the products for the promotion of organic farming in accordance with Article 24 of Regulation (EU) 2018/848. Products in accordance with this article can be labelled as “usable in organic farming.”
